The FDA requires generic drugs like generic sibutramine to work as effectively as the original brand names to ensure the safety of the public health. Generic sibutramine can have different colors, flavors and sizes or combines other inactive ingredients than the brand name medication. This is because trademark laws in the States do not allow generic sibutramine to look exactly like the brand name version. However, the active ingredients must be the same.
